Summary
Ryland sees life as a screenplay, orders drinks out of westerns, lusts in noir, and is convinced he’s only one plot twist away from a box-office smash kind of life where he gets the girl in the end. Michael, flush with movie-star looks and punk-rock charm, could have it all—if it weren’t for a private sadness that drives him to fight cops, take broken-hearted leaps from second-story balconies, and obsess over his best friend’s girl.
Together in Hollywood, fortune finally smiles on the brothers. Warner Bros. loves their TV pilot! Michael is taken in by the celebrity in-crowd, even scores a gig for his imaginary band to play Dodger Stadium. And Ryland wakes from a panic attack to find himself in a totally-famous/somewhat-haunted Hollywood mansion.
But then Ryland falls for their TV producer’s mistress and Michael falls even deeper into his destructive ways, and soon it’s all Ryland can do to rescue his brother and salvage what’s left of their future, which is unraveling faster than funding on a starless indie-flick.
